It’s 2017: Alex is back from India and Bill has returned from a USA trip. Doing what old friends always do when they hit home: meet at the pub garden and swap stories. It was lunchtime, so they didn’t want the booze; they wanted grown-up drinks and the selection on offer was poor: sugary, full of additives and uninspiring. And that was the beginning of Genie. We both admitted we were looking for a new adventure in life, shook hands, and got to work. They quit their jobs, experimented in the kitchen and set strict rules: only natural ingredients, ethical sourcing and supply chains, real health benefits, and no compromise on taste. 18 months later, and Genie was born.
